MARCH 2017

It's a "Cliché "  , because it's true: "Time Flies" :)) I have finally updated my Concert Agenda and plan to update it more often:)) !

With the BART DEFOORT QUINTET ,we are soon playing again .It's always great and serious fun to play the original compositions of our CD "Inner Waves" with the band. And as with every CD : once it's recorded ,the music keeps on evolving,we look for the different and new ways to play  and approach it, the freedom and fun to be creating new improvisations ,interacting with the band "in the moment of playing" ,like jugglers , juggling with the notes and rhythms.

Our CD has been elected "2nd Best Belgian Jazz CD of 2016" by 1800 listeners of the Belgian Radio Program "Jazz Rules". It's always "heart-warming"  to get reactions like that on your music, and surely by the  listeners ,who listen with their hearts and love for the music....Thank You!

Some  QUINTET concerts already in April,May 2017 and the Spring of 2018 and I hope much more to come!

With the BJO we had some great musical moments these last couple of months. And what a joy to play with thes "cats" since the birth of the orchestra, already   23 Years ! ( You see that  "time flies":))

We have played some  very nice CD Release Concerts with Bert Joris. The CD is called "Smooth Shake" and is our third CD with him.Bert Joris is really "something else" ,he's on a very high ,International and personal level of composing , arranging and playing. Very deep level of expression, composing AND playing -wise.He's just one of my favourite Jazzmusicians worldwide.I feel blessed to play this music with him and the BJO. Check out our upcoming concerts in September 2018 in great venues. Only 3 concerts.... I really hope we'll play much more with this music, because Bert deserves this.

We have been playing a lot of "Brel" Concerts with David Linx and have been playing the great and beautiful music of  Gil Evans of the '40's and '50's under the guidance of Ryan Trusdell.

We are preparing some new projects and a new CD recording in June with Tutu Puoane " We Have A Dream",on which we 'll play new arrangements by some of  our bandmembers on Songs about Freedom.

I soon play some concerts with the " Bart Defoort & Victor Da Costa Quartet",along with the superb guitarist Victor Da Costa and the great young musicians Victor Foulon on Double Bass and Armando Luongo on drums . With this band ,we play" less played" Standards and Compositions of Jazz Legends such as Bud Powell, TheloniusMonk ,Sonny Rollins,Charlie Parker,  Donald Byrd etc,etc,... Timeless, beautiful music that is a joy and a great challenge to play.

That's all for now...thanks for passing by on this website & hope to see you on one of the concerts.

All the best,

Since the release of our CD "Inner Waves", the quintet has been playing several concerts, like the Jazzfestival "Jazz à Liège", the Labelnight of the Werf, and several Jazzclubs. The band sounds better and better and we take great pleasure in bringing new versions of the tunes we've recorded on the album. We also got some airplay on the national radio stations and the CD received a lot of fine reviews. You can read them at the "Press" section. There is also a long interview  with me in the October 2016 issue of the Flemish Jazzmagazine "Jazzmozaïek".

NEW CD will be coming out in May 2016.

The CD is called "INNER WAVES" by the Bart Defoort Quintet. The musicians are:

Ewout Pierreux , Piano  // Hans Van Oost , Guitar  // Christophe Devisscher , Double Bass // Toni Vitacolonna ,Drums  // Bart Defoort Tenor Sax

It features 8 new tunes of mine + 1 tune by Hans.

It's the 4th CD under my name on the Label of the Music & Arts Center in Bruges called De WERF. ( )  As always ,it has been great to work with them and I am grateful to them in producing this album.

We have recorded the CD in 2 days last November in the beautiful studio " Fattoria Musica " in Osnabrück,Germany.

In the video -section ,you can watch 3 of the tunes, recorded and filmed at the club JAZZSTATION in Brussels a couple of weeks ago.
